The Association Of Sea Fisheries Committees

Sea Fisheries Committees

Each Sea Fisheries Committee is made up of local representatives appointed by County Councils or Unitary Authorities, Environment Agency and others appointed by the Department for Food and Rural Affairs in England and the Welsh Assembly Government in Wales. Defra and WAG make sure that commercial fishermen, recreational fishermen and marine environmental experts are represented as are others with a particular involvement in the marine affairs of a particular Committee. The County Council and Unitary Authority representatives ensure that the Committees provide a cost effective and relevant service to local communities, local fishermen and visiting fishermen and their marine environment.

Committee Members are reappointed every four years. The next round of appointments will be in 2009.
