Two of the Sea Fisheries Committees are in Wales. Carwyn Jones the former Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Environment, Planning and Countryside announced on 15th September 2006, a consultation on his proposal that the Welsh Assembly Government should assume full responsibility for the management of fisheries in Welsh Waters. The Welsh Assembly Government has concluded that all fisheries management and enforcement work will be taken directly into the Welsh Assembly Government from 1 April 2010.
The Association, together with the North Western and North Wales Sea Fisheries Committee and the South Wales Sea Fisheries Committee is playing a full part in this, including the secondment of senior staff to the Welsh Assembly Government to provide critical information to help smooth the transition process.
Each English and Welsh Committee manages its District through byelaws which can apply to commercial fishermen and recreational fishermen. These byelaws remain in force both in England and in Wales during the transition process. To learn whether byelaws affect you go to

The Committees regularly patrol their Districts to enforce byelaws, and national and European Union conservation measures.
